The AIS annual graduation ceremony was a unique celebration of academic achievement and resilience. The 286 graduates listed in the programme for the 31st annual graduation have gained much more than a qualification; they have gained new awareness of their own strengths and capabilities, overcoming multiple obstacles ranging from lockdowns and online learning to personal challenges during the Covid-19 pandemic and recovery.

Saturday 15th June 2024 marks the one-year anniversary of the passing of our beloved Life Honorary Chairman, Mr Yin-Sheng Hsieh. Known to all as “YS”, and Chairman of AIS for 28 years until his retirement in 2019, Mr Hsieh is sorely missed and fondly remembered throughout AIS and the wider Taiwanese business community in New Zealand.

Auckland Institute of Studies (AIS) and the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) have agreed to continue to work in partnership by signing a new articulation agreement. This articulation agreement provides progression pathways to AIS for SQA international students who have successfully completed an SQA Advanced Diploma. AIS has mapped several SQA Advanced Diplomas to offer SQA international students the opportunity to study at AIS and achieve a degree.

The Silver Fern, or Ponga in te reo Māori, is a species of tree fern found only in New Zealand and named for the silver underside of its fronds, traditionally used to light a path through the darkness. The silver fern is known around the world as a symbol of New Zealand, and the FernMark, the government’s trademarked silver fern, helps to identify and promote products and services of New Zealand origin on the world stage.

"Being in and out of lockdown was stressful but with Carmi, it was amazing to see the compassion, love, and care that she shows towards the student in need. On the other hand, I am extremely thankful that Martin allocated the marketing aspect to the internship, I learned a lot through the numerous task that Konica allocated and it proved once again that learning on the job is the best way to comprehend the mechanisms of a company.”

34 students from India have recently completed a 4-week Special Topic course online as part of the completion of their Bachelor's degrees in global business and IT. Special approval was granted by NZQA to enable the course to be delivered offshore online.
This month AIS is excited to welcome back its first international students from offshore in 15 months. The students are enrolled in the Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme but were unable to return from overseas for the start of Semester 1, 2020. The students, who are from China and Indonesia, continued their studies online while New Zealand’s borders remained closed to international students.

The Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages(CertTESOL) is a recommended qualification for teaching English in New Zealand and overseas. No prior teaching experience is necessary for this programme: CertTESOL provides trainees with practical experience of language teaching with ample opportunities to plan, teach and evaluate lessons. Trainees attain a high level of practical competence along with an understanding of language teaching which is required for employment in this field.

Friday 16 March 2018 turned out to be an ideal day to visit Bethell’s Beach which is also known as Te Henga.
A group of 11 students plus teacher David left Auckland Institute of Studies at 3.30pm on Friday 16 March. The morning had been rainy and there was a lot of cloud cover when we left but it was a warm day in the 22 to 24 degree range. However, as we arrived at the beach, the sky became clearer and the clouds came and went through the late afternoon and early evening.
"The new Rukuhia Global Leadership Programme lets international students interact with Māori culture in a meaningful way and dive deep into the traditions, beliefs, language and values of Māori people.
AIS students spent the day on a Māori marae (meeting house) participating in workshops that focus on leadership, values, innovation, sustainability and the connection of people, place and environment.” (Study Auckland, New Zealand)

The AIS Careers Expo partners with key organisations to help students pathway from learning to real world success. The exhibition was organised by the AIS Student Careers Centre on Thursday, 12 April 2018.
Independent Tertiary Education New Zealand (ITENZ) is a national organisation representing private tertiary institutions in New Zealand.
ITENZ is the largest association covering all areas of private tertiary education, and is recognised by the Government and government agencies as the main representative body for the sector.
The ITENZ Roadshow 2018 was organised in Auckland on March 19, 2018, with presentations from NZQA, TEC, Education NZ and Ako Aotearoa. It will be followed by events in Hamilton, Wellington and Christchurch.

Undergraduate/Graduate Programmes
Scholarships are awarded on the basis of excellence of academic results over the previous two semesters, and take the form of a reduction in tuition fees for further study in the programme.
This time we joined Sabrina Mayadayita and her class (led by Lecturer Jonathon Spring) to Tawharanui Regional Park to learn more about Eco-Tourism and Tourism Management in New Zealand.

We are having a Careers Expo at AIS just for you and your family on 12 April 2018 at our Asquith Campus (Sports Hall).
Three weeks with students from Chikushi Jogakuen University (Japan) went so fast. We had an amazing time together, studying English and exploring New Zealand at the same time.
Sisilia is studying Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration (PGDBA) at AIS. As a new international student from Indonesia, Sisi loves to explore Auckland through running.
Jyoti Notani – an AIS alumna led a workshop on IBM Watson for Crime Analytics.
Crime Prediction using various Data Mining methods was Jyoti’s final year project organised and supervised by Dr. Neda Hamid in 2017.

The Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) offers their Higher National Diploma (HND) in developing countries around the world, supporting graduates to continue towards degree studies in the UK.
With the support of NZQA, AIS signed an agreement with SQA in 2013 to offer similar pathways into bachelor degree programmes in New Zealand as an alternate destination.
ABOUT CRIE
The Centre for Research in International Education (CRIE) was established a decade ago, in order to provide a forum for discussion, conferences, research, publication, collaboration, etc in the field of education.
Pat comes from Thailand and studies English for Academic Purposes (EAP) at Auckland Institute of Studies (AIS). In 2018, Pat will enrol into Business Programme at AIS.
English for Academic Purposes II (EAP II) is a full-time course designed for students seeking an English language pathway into an AIS certificate, diploma or degree programme. It is very useful preparation for students seeking to study any programme at an English-speaking tertiary institution.
ONLINE LEARNING IN INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION
The rapid growth of education services across international borders, seen in recent years, is expected to continue in the future. This growth demands the attention of policy makers, researchers, academics and other interested groups.
